The Georgia Department of Transportation is planning to upgrade Route 15 and Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue to thoroughfare standards to better serve the growing Medical District and Downtown Augusta.  The City of Augusta was awarded a Partnership for Sustainable Communities award from the federal government to use that occasion to improve the low-income neighborhoods that will be impacted by the road’s construction.  PES worked as part of a multi-disciplinary team to test the market for new development opportunities and to develop revitalization strategies.  PES identified three specific redevelopment projects, prepare detailed financial analyses and recommended a development strategy for each.  These efforts helped to focus the community and local officials to implement changes.
